Writer/ Content Assistant (Multi-Niche Writer & Researcher)

  • Full-Time
  • Remote
  • Ends on June 5, 2025

Overview

We ARE —a joyful, story-first publisher creating nostalgic monthly newspapers for knitters, crocheters, bakers, and soon… quilters, birders, gardeners, and more. Each issue is packed with original articles, expert voices, fun segments, and cozy inspiration our readers actually look forward to receiving.

We’re looking for a Content Assistant to help us discover great stories, reach out to experts, and turn interviews into warm, witty, and well-crafted articles. You must have extensive experience working with ChatGPT. In this role, ChatGPT will be one of your creative tools—used for brainstorming, research, and generating rough drafts. But make no mistake: you are the writer. You need to know when AI is helpful, when it isn’t, and how to shape the final piece into a well-written, well-researched, and engaging article that feels thoughtful, human, and on-brand.

Your Superpowers

*You have a great eye for what makes something story-worthy (you love scrolling Instagram or reading newsletters and thinking: “That’s a feature waiting to happen”)
*You’re curious, self-directed, and great at learning new information then synthesizing information into engaging content
*You’re confident using AI tools (like ChatGPT) as a jumping-off point—but you bring the judgment, polish, and voice that makes a piece great
*You can write clean, conversational copy and match different tones across niches like knitting, baking, or gardening
*You enjoy managing a contributor outreach list and reaching out to real people (authors, hobbyists, experts) for interviews

What You’ll Do

Story Scouting

  • Hunt for great story ideas across Instagram, newsletters, books, and blogs
  • Regularly pitch short, medium, and long-form article ideas across multiple niches
  • Help keep our newspapers full of delightful surprises, ideas, and discoveries

Expert Outreach

  • Maintain and grow a contributor database across niches (knitting, crochet, quilting, baking, birding, gardening, etc.)
  • Send friendly outreach emails to authors, experts, and makers asking to feature them
  • Coordinate and send email interviews (2–10 questions, depending on article type)

Writing & Research

  • Use ChatGPT to help brainstorm angles, format interviews, and generate rough drafts
  • Turn interviews into polished, on-brand articles with a strong editorial voice
  • Write across a variety of tones—from witty columns to heartfelt profiles to informative how-tos
  • Collaborate with the editor and team to hit deadlines and polish each piece

Must-Haves

**Strong writing skills and editorial judgment
**Experience using AI tools like ChatGPT effectively (you’re the writer, AI is the assistant)
**Curiosity and the ability to learn and switch gears across multiple topics
**Excellent communication and organization—you’ll be managing outreach and interviews
**A warm, human tone and the ability to tailor your voice to different audience segments

Bonus Points If You

***Have experience in journalism, content writing, or magazine publishing
***Are familiar with (or love) any of our niche topics: fiber arts, baking, gardening, etc.
***Can juggle multiple stories at once and keep things moving

To Apply

Please submit:

A short note introducing yourself and why this role excites you
2–3 writing samples that show your voice (any format or topic is fine)
A quick summary of your experience using ChatGPT or similar tools in a writing or research capacity

There will be a Test Assignment As a part of the Interview Process
