Job Title: Cost Accountant
Location: Remote with occasional travel
Employment Type: Part-Time with Full-Time potential
Reports To: Director of Finance

The Role: We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical Cost Accountant to join our small, motivated
finance team. This role will play a critical part in monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on costs
related to inventory and operations as we scale our manufacturing operations. The ideal
candidate will have strong expertise in cost accounting principles, inventory management, and
Bill of Materials (BOM) management, with the ability to provide actionable insights that support
decision-making and profitability. You’ll enjoy significant autonomy in this role and be heavily
involved in our upcoming implementation of advanced inventory management and ERP
systems.

Key Responsibilities
● Manage and optimize Bill of Materials (BOM) ensuring accuracy and cost-effectiveness
across our manufacturing operations
● Oversee inventory management processes including raw materials, work-in-process,
and finished goods tracking with contract manufacturers
● Provide occasional on-site support at manufacturing facilities for inventory audits,
process reviews, and relationship management
● Maintain and reconcile inventory records, ensuring accuracy across physical counts,
ERP systems, and financial statements
● Analyze material, labor, and overhead costs to assess efficiency and identify cost-saving
opportunities
● Prepare monthly cost reports, variance analyses, and product line margin analyses
● Monitor and report on inventory valuation, obsolescence, and slow-moving items
● Support cycle counts and annual physical inventory processes, including audit
documentation
● Develop and maintain standard costs and ensure BOM accuracy across manufacturing
partners
● Work closely with a small team on ERP and advanced inventory management system
implementation, including requirements gathering, testing, and process documentation
● Collaborate with operations, procurement, and supply chain teams to understand cost
drivers and support operational planning
● Support evaluation and onboarding of additional manufacturing partners as business
grows
● Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning related to operations and
inventory

Qualifications

Required: ● 2–3 years of accounting experience, ideally with a consumer goods company or DTC brand ● Experience with Bill of Materials (BOM) management and advanced inventory control systems ● ERP system implementation experience or advanced inventory management systems ● Previous experience working with contract manufacturers or third-party logistics providers ● Strong understanding of GAAP and eCommerce-related accounting practices ● Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks Online, NetSuite) and advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills ● Availability for occasional travel to manufacturing facilities for on-site support ● Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with significant autonomy and willingness to take on multiple responsibilities in a young, growing organizationPreferred: ● Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred) ● Familiarity with eCommerce platforms and tools (e.g., Shopify, GoodDay, Flagship) ● Experience with manufacturing cost accounting and standard costing methodologies ● Experience with enterprise ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics ● Knowledge of demand planning, safety stock optimization, and automated reorder systems
