Positions indirectly supervised: Content Manager and Web Development Team (as related to SEO initiatives)

II. POSITION’S GOAL
We provide strategic leadership and direction for all client SEO initiatives. This role bridges data-driven strategy and content execution — turning insights into actionable plans that drive visibility, traffic, and conversions for Managed Service Provider (MSP), IT, and Telecom clients.

The strategist is responsible for developing and refining client SEO roadmaps, ensuring alignment with broader marketing goals, and mentoring the Technical SEO Specialist on implementation priorities.

This position also supports agency innovation by testing emerging SEO and AI technologies, evaluating new methodologies, and identifying scalable opportunities to improve efficiency and results.

III. KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
DAILY / WEEKLY:

Oversee the execution of client SEO strategies and provide clear direction to the Technical SEO Specialist, web and content team.
Conduct advanced keyword research, clustering, and intent mapping for client campaigns using tools like Semrush, Ahrefs, and SurferSEO.
Review ongoing technical, on-page, and content optimizations for accuracy and strategic alignment.
Provide SEO insights and recommendations during client and internal meetings.
Stay updated on algorithm changes, AI-powered SEO tools, and new optimization opportunities.
Support account managers in translating SEO data into actionable client communication.
Collaborate with the content manager to guide editorial calendars, pillar content, and topic clusters that build topical authority.

MONTHLY:

Review and interpret performance reports for all SEO clients, summarizing wins, opportunities, and next steps for the CEO and Ops Manager.
Refine SEO strategies based on performance data, algorithm updates, or industry trends.
Host a monthly alignment call with the Technical SEO Specialist to adjust quarterly plans and prioritize implementation.
Approve all keyword strategies, content briefs, and site structure changes before execution.

QUARTERLY:

Lead quarterly strategy audits for all active SEO clients, identifying new growth opportunities and risks.
Develop and present updated quarterly SEO plans to internal stakeholders.
Pilot new AI-driven SEO tools or workflows to improve agency efficiency.
Contribute to the agency’s “Innovation Tracker” by documenting test results and recommendations.

ANNUALLY:

Participate in annual planning and forecasting for SEO-related goals.
Recommend agency-wide SEO training or professional development opportunities.
Collaborate with leadership on emerging SEO service offerings and thought leadership initiatives.
Note: This role focuses on strategy, direction, and innovation — not daily implementation. The strategist provides leadership and oversight, ensuring all SEO work aligns with agency standards and client outcomes.

EDUCATION & AREAS OF EXPERTISE:
Formal Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred in Marketing, Communications, or Business.
Certifications: Google Analytics, HubSpot, or SEO certifications preferred but not required.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of SEO strategy experience, preferably within an agency environment.
Languages: Fluent English.

VIII. PERFORMANCE METRICS
Client SEO growth (keyword rankings, traffic, and conversions).
Quality and clarity of SEO strategies and reports.
Timeliness and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Innovation — piloting and documenting at least one new AI/automation initiative per quarter.
Positive feedback from CEO, Ops, and Account Managers regarding clarity and direction.
