About the position:

Currently, our client is seeking an experienced Controller who will build and maintain accounting functions for our small or medium size business clients. This candidate will have success stories of implementing and maintaining the functional requirements of an accounting function and the reporting requirements of a CFO. As  Controller, you will have character, integrity, a servant-leader mindset, humility, and empathy. You will use your experience managing and developing people and accounting systems to bring order, and systemization, to customer accounting functions to consistently produce accurate and timely reporting to the CFO.  You will also improve system uniformity across our Client’s customers’ accounting systems.

Day-to-day responsibilities include: (Additional tasks will be discussed during the interview process.)

  • Building and maintaining an efficient accounting function that reliably produces accurate and timely financial reporting to the CFO that minimizes friction in business operations.
  • Training and managing a team of internal and external bookkeepers.
  • Hands-on implementation, integration, and maintenance of a system of accounting software
  • Learn and implement new customer software integrations with QBO.
  • Teaching customers how to use the tools for their roles in the accounting process.
  • Developing and defining accounting policy in a written format (i.e. Business Process Guide (BPG)) that is implemented in various task management and accounting software.
  • Holding team members accountable for compliance with the BPGs.
  • Monthly Quality Assurance reviews of accounting for GAAP and BPG compliance prior to financial report preparation and delivery to the CFO.
  • Implementation of Accounts Payable and Receivable approval workflows in software
  • New customer accounting software setup and integration
  • Executing or overseeing accounting cleanup
  • Executing complex month-end journal entries
  • Operating and maintaining a closed-loop issue identification, discussion, and solutions process.

Salary, Benefits, and Perks:

  • $70 to $85 per hour
  • 5 to 10 hours a month
  • 1099 contract; The position is long-term. However, with the right candidate and established trust, W2 employment will be offered

Qualifications

What are the qualifications you will need: - At least 3 years of experience as a Controller managing people and the integrity of an accounting system and the quality of its financial reporting - At least 5 years of experience in various roles of the accounting function - A Bachelor's degree in Accounting is preferred, but not required - CPA preferred, but not required - 3 years of experience using Quickbooks Online certification preferred, but not required. - Experienced using Google Business Suite, CRMs, and other accounting and/or financial software - Flexible What skills and values will you have: - Enjoys the accounting process, and all of the tasks involved, and understands its importance in producing accurate and timely financial reporting - Tech Savvy - Curious mind who loves to learn - Empathetic - Humble - Organized - Systems and Process oriented - Pays attention to detail - Independent problem-solver - Strong organizational skills - Can work internally and externally
