SStraub Cover Letter

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have been working contract for law firms or from my home office since 2002 in the Sugar Land area. I have also worked for the following firms as either a legal assistant, paralegal, legal secretary or office manager in both Austin and Sugar Land, Texas:

I was employed at Morris & Florey, L.L.P. in Austin, Texas as an office manager/paralegal. I ran the day-to-day administrative operation of their criminal defense law firm from November 1998 to September 1999. I also used this job as an internship while at the University of Texas-Austin Paralegal Certificate Program.

Upon graduating from the paralegal program, I was then offered a job to work at Kincaid & Horton. I worked solely for Mark Kincaid, managing partner of the firm. This was a plaintiffs’ law firm that dealt with civil appellate law and consumer and business law. As the paralegal to one of the managing partners, I was in charge of maintaining the administrative duties as well as working side by side with Mark, and assisting him with his legal case files, helping him prepare for trial, and maintaining of all aspects of his legal calendar. I worked at Kincaid & Horton from September 1999 to June 2000.

In the summer of 2000, I moved to Sugar Land, Texas. I immediately found a job working at Johanson & Fairless, L.L.P., and worked there from June 2000 to August 2002. This firm handled insurance defense claims. I worked for Stefani Fitzgerald at the firm. I prepared and drafted letters, worked on pleadings, managed the calendar, and assisted with any and all administrative duties as needed from her or anyone else in the firm. In 2002, I left the firm to raise my young children from home.

In 2002, I began working from home for Edward Meaux, a court reporter in Fort Bend County. I transcribed legal court documentation such as hearings or trials that were up for appeal. I was fortunate to be able to do this job from my home office. It was on a part-time contract basis or as needed upon requests from the court reporter. Mr. Meaux retired in the spring of 2011. I worked from home for 9 years, and it has been one of the best jobs I’ve ever had.

In 1999 I earned a Paralegal Certificate from the University of Texas, Austin. Additionally, I also have several college credit hours both from Austin Community College and from Wharton County Junior College. Most of the credits are undergraduate liberal arts courses.

Thank you for your time and attention.
