Dear Ms. Miller,
I was excited to see your opening for the Administrative / Virtual Assistant role, and I hope to be invited for an interview.
My background includes supporting internal teams during the grant making process. Most recently, I worked as a Grants Manager at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This role managed projects for my team while also shepherding proposals through the approval process. The grant approval process involved working with many different groups, identifying issues with the proposals and then resolving to ensure the proposal went through the approval process smoothly. I was also given the opportunity to give input on creating a specialized tracking tool with CRM that supported the business. I created technical documentation to support the tool, and created a SharePoint repository to track in-process projects and training materials.
Prior to the Gates Foundation, I worked at the Paul G. Allen Foundation managing a much smaller portfolio of grants which allowed me to accomplish many Foundation-based projects, such as organization of over 600 tax files and recoding of the data base which included close to 8,000 records.
I also bring to the table strong computer skills in MS Office and CRM. I am a quick learner with web applications and look forward using this skill to further your business. My previous roles had a strong customer service component which required fielding an array of questions on how best to complete the work process. On a personal note, I am excited for the opportunity to work for a close-knit organization. When I first started at the Gates Foundation in 2002, I was the 15th person hired in my department and the second on my team. When I left in 2014 to spend time with my two children, the department had grown to over 400 employees and my team was over 60. While I feel lucky to have seen such growth and learn how to change policies and procedures as we grew, I missed the community feeling of a small group and the ability to make changes quickly for the better of the business.
