Paleovalley Cover Letter

April 3, 18

Hi, my name is Shallima Downes and I am from Massapequa, NY (Long Island). I’d like to apply for the Paleovalley job.

I read through your job description and I looked at your website and was very interested in your products. As a mother of a young boy who likes to eat very well, I like to make things that would be healthier choices for his body, so as a consumer this was very appealing. I think working for your company might be a good fit for me because I am looking for a position that would offer the flexibility to have a balanced family and work life. I like to be busy and I like to be able enjoy what I do. I believe that going to work should be a part of your day that you look forward to. I am particularly interested in learning what your company does, because I have started to become more conscious of the food that I feed my family. Coming from a traditional West Indian family, we always prepared our meals with the freshest ingredients growing up. However, I find that in the present day, in my need to make meals quickly sometimes I take shortcuts. I have since gone back to cooking with fresher ingredients and less prepackaged foods, so this is something that appeals to me as a mom and wife as well as in a professional aspect. All while making these meals, I usually have some 70s, 80s, 90s, today music playing on the iPod. While I know that this is not a favorite band, I can say honestly I love Ed Sheeran and listening to George Michael and Maroon 5 and a whole list of other artists and bands. There is so much great music out there, and I feel like if I say one is my absolute favorite, it does no justice to my playlist! Listening to music makes me happy, and I love songs and then I love the people who sing them.

In reference to my writing skills, I would say that they are an 8 on a scale from 1 to 10. I feel that I always have room for improvement, I have gotten better as using less words to get my point across, because people don’t want to read a whole book to get to a point that can usually be summed up in 2 sentences. I always double check my spelling and grammar, and re read my emails and texts just to be sure it does not come off as forward or to make sure it does sound friendly. I am constantly checking to make sure I have correct punctuation and capital letters in place. I feel that in this day of technology, writing sometimes is your first impression in meeting with people, so it is important to always put your best foot forward.

My best time management tool, the one that I find works best in my personal and professional life is my calendar. As soon as I have an event, activity, appointment, meeting, whatever comes up in life, I put it on my calendar. When I have the visual on my calendar, it helps me to create plans for due dates, and deadlines. After I put it on my calendar, I then make to do lists every day. When I make to do lists, I also outline what needs to be done, what materials are needed, information, etc. Doing this keeps me on top of what needs to be done and how much time I have to complete the task. This has been a key in helping me learn how to prioritize. I am more focused when I have my notebook next to me with all my tasks and it gives me the visual I need to help me get the job done.

The product I would most likely buy from your website would most likely be the Paleo Cookbook you have. I like to try new recipes to keep it interesting in my kitchen. And the orange chicken recipe you have posted on the website looks easy and delicious. I will be trying it out this week, I think it will be well received in my home. I hope that I answered all your questions from your job description, though I can definitely tell you, I may have went over the 13 sentence requirement that you put in the job description. Apparently, I had a lot to say about the favorite band topic. I really enjoyed replying to this position and I hope to hear from you soon.
